GUTTER CLEANING

A roof sheds about 0.62 gallons per square foot for every inch of rain, so a 1,000 square foot roof plane moves roughly 620 gallons in a single one-inch storm. This part of Maryland collects about 44 inches a year across 116 wet days, and most of it arrives in short summer bursts. Metro Mobile Pressure Washing clears gutter troughs by hand, flushes and tests downspouts, and brightens stained gutter faces on homes and commercial buildings throughout Fort Washington, MD.

A BLOCKED TROUGH TURNS RAIN INTO A FOUNDATION PROBLEM.

Water that cannot travel along the gutter goes over the front edge instead, straight down against the wall and into the soil beside the footing. That is where basements get damp and where fascia boards start to soften. The gutter itself is rarely the casualty. Everything underneath it is. Gutters are a drainage system, not a decoration.

So the job is not really about leaves. It is about confirming that every gallon leaving your roof reaches a downspout, exits the building, and lands far enough away to keep moving.

  • Downspouts flushed and flow tested
  • Debris bagged and carried away

GUTTER CLEANING

GUTTERS FAIL QUIETLY UNTIL THE DAY THEY DO NOT.

Nothing announces a blockage. The trough fills gradually with grit, shingle granules, and seed pods, and the system keeps working right up until a heavy storm arrives and the water goes somewhere it should not. By then you are looking at a stained wall, a wet corner in the basement, or a fascia board that has been damp for months without anybody noticing. A schedule prevents all of it.

RAIN HERE ARRIVES IN BURSTS, NOT DRIZZLE.

Summer storms in this county deliver a great deal of water in a short window, which is exactly the condition a partly blocked gutter cannot handle. Mature tree cover across the older neighborhoods adds a steady supply of leaves, needles, and seed litter. Between those two, gutters in this area need attention on a schedule rather than only when something visibly goes wrong.

WE HAVE PULLED WORSE THINGS THAN LEAVES OUT OF A TROUGH.

Tennis balls, roof shingles, a startling volume of granule sludge, and the occasional nest that had clearly been there for seasons. What all of it has in common is that none of it was visible from the ground, and the owner had no reason to suspect anything. After 26 years we no longer take a clear-looking gutter at face value, which is why every downspout gets flushed and watched. When were yours last checked?

WHY CHOOSE US FOR GUTTER CLEANING.

Hand washing a car under running water, black outline icon
WATER THAT LEAVES THE BUILDING
The whole point is discharge, not tidiness. A cleared trough that feeds a blocked downspout has solved nothing, which is why flow testing is part of the job rather than an upsell.

A DRIER BASEMENT AFTER A STORM
Most damp foundation corners trace back to water dumping in the same spot repeatedly. Restoring proper drainage is far cheaper than any interior remedy, and it addresses the cause instead of the symptom.
Hand using a spray nozzle to wash a car with water droplets around it
FASCIA AND SOFFIT THAT LAST
Standing water in a trough sits against the board behind it. Wood stays wet, paint fails, and eventually the fastening loses its hold. Keeping the channel clear keeps the whole edge sound.

NO LADDER WORK FOR YOU
Falls from ladders account for a meaningful share of serious home maintenance injuries. This is genuinely the wrong task to save money on, particularly on a two-story elevation or wet footing.

DEBRIS TAKEN AWAY, NOT DROPPED
What comes out of the gutter leaves with us. Sludge blown onto the lawn or left in a pile beside the downspout is not a finished job, however clean the trough looks from below.

GUTTER FACES WITHOUT STREAKS
The black striping down the front of aluminum gutters is not dirt and does not come off with a house wash. Treating it properly is what makes the roofline look maintained rather than merely cleared.

OUR GUTTER CLEANING WORK

Gutter work covers more than scooping a trough. These are the tasks that make up a full visit, and the ones that determine whether the system actually performs during the next serious storm.

Gutter Trough Clearing

HAND CLEARING

Every run cleared by hand along its full length, corners and valleys included. Hand work catches the compacted granule sludge at the low points, which a blower simply passes over and leaves in place.

Downspout Flushing

FLOW CHECK

Each downspout flushed with water and watched at the discharge end. A blockage in the elbow or at the underground connection is invisible from the roofline and is the most common failure we find.

Gutter Brightening

FACE WORK

The dark vertical striping on gutter faces is petroleum residue running off the shingles, bonded to the aluminum. It needs a dedicated product and light agitation, because bleach and ordinary washing do nothing.

Gutter Exterior Washing

WHOLE HOUSE

The outside of the gutter line washed along with the fascia and the soffit above it. Cleaning the trough while leaving a stained face outside means the roofline still looks neglected from the street.

Cleaning Around Gutter Guards

GUARDED SYSTEMS

Guards reduce how often clearing is needed, they do not remove the requirement. Panels get lifted where the system allows, the trough underneath gets checked, and fine debris on top gets cleared away.

Multifamily and Commercial Gutter Lines

COMMERCIAL

Long runs on apartment buildings, townhome rows, and commercial roofs handled section by section. Scheduling is coordinated with management so residents and staff keep access throughout the whole of the work.

THE WORD ON OUR WORK

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY.

The response we hear most is relief, usually from someone who had been putting the ladder off for a year. Property managers tell us the useful part is the report on what we found, because that is what tells them which building needs attention next.

FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

Gutter questions tend to be about timing and consequences, which makes sense given that nothing about a failing gutter is visible until it is expensive. Here are the common ones.

How often should gutters be cleaned?

Twice a year suits most homes, once after the spring seed drop and once again after the leaves have finished falling. Under heavy tree cover it can be considerably more than that, sometimes several separate visits during the autumn alone.

What month should gutters be cleaned?

Late autumn, once the trees beside the house are genuinely bare, and again in late spring after the maple and oak litter has come down. Cleaning too early in the fall usually means paying to do it twice.

What are the signs that gutters need clearing?

Water spilling over the front edge in the middle of a storm, plants growing out of the trough, streaks on the siding beneath, sagging sections, and a downspout that stays dry while the roof is clearly shedding water.

What happens if you do not clean your gutters?

Overflowing water lands against the foundation, saturates the soil beside the footing, and finds its way into basements. Standing water also keeps fascia boards damp until the paint fails and the fastenings holding the run begin to give.

What should be included in a gutter cleaning?

Hand clearing of every run, flushing and flow testing of each downspout, an inspection of hangers and seams, and removal of the debris from the property. Metro Mobile Pressure Washing includes all of that in Fort Washington, MD.

Do gutters with guards still need cleaning?

Yes, less often. Guards keep leaves out but let fine grit, shingle granules, and pollen through, and that material compacts in the bottom of the trough. Debris also builds up on top of the panels themselves over time.

How do you get gutter faces white again?

Those black stripes are asphalt residue bonded electrostatically to the aluminum, so a normal house wash leaves them untouched. Metro Mobile Pressure Washing treats them in Fort Washington, MD with a dedicated remover and some gentle agitation by hand.

How long does gutter cleaning take?

A typical single-family home takes 1 to 2 hours including the downspout flushing and testing. Larger roofs, complicated rooflines with multiple valleys, or a system that has gone several years without any attention will take considerably longer than that.

    HOW WE WORK

FROM ROOFLINE TO DISCHARGE POINT, HERE IS HOW.

    STEP 01

    Look at the whole system
Before anything comes out, we walk the perimeter and note the sagging runs, the separated seams, the stained siding, and where the water has clearly been going. The evidence on the ground tells the story.

    STEP 02

    Clear every trough by hand
Debris comes out along the full length of each run, including corners, valleys, and the compacted sludge at the low points. Hand clearing finds what a blower would skate straight over and leave behind.

    STEP 03

    Flush and watch each downspout
Water goes in at the top and someone watches the outlet at the bottom. If it does not run freely we work the blockage until it does, because a clear trough feeding a blocked pipe achieves nothing.

    STEP 04

    Check hangers, seams, and pitch
While we are up there we look at the fastenings, the joints, and whether the run still falls toward the outlet. You get told what we found, whether or not it is something we would handle.

    STEP 05

    Treat the faces if needed
Where the gutter fronts carry that black striping, a dedicated product goes on with light agitation and gets rinsed clean. This is a separate task from clearing and it changes how the whole roofline reads.

    STEP 06

Bag the debris and clear the ground
Everything removed leaves with us, the beds below get rinsed, and the walkway underneath gets washed down. There should be no evidence on the ground that anyone had been working overhead that morning at all.
