DRIVEWAY CLEANING

Maryland's highway agency stockpiles roughly 386,000 tons of rock salt and 1.6 million gallons of brine for a single winter, and a share of that arrives on your driveway under the tires. Deicing chemicals keep concrete saturated and multiply the freeze and thaw cycles the surface goes through. Metro Mobile Pressure Washing handles driveway cleaning on concrete, pavers, aprons, and garage slabs across Fort Washington, MD, treating the stains before washing rather than hoping that pressure alone reaches them.

OIL DOES NOT SIT ON CONCRETE. IT SINKS INTO IT.

That single fact explains why most driveway stains survive a rented machine. Concrete is porous, oil travels down into it, and water applied to the top can only reach what is on the top. Push harder and you drive the contamination deeper while etching the surface you were trying to save. Sequence matters more than horsepower.

The working method is the other way around. A degreaser goes down first, dwells long enough to emulsify what has soaked in, and then heated water and a rotating head pull the loosened residue back out.

  • Degreaser applied and given dwell time
  • Heated water available for oil and rubber
  • Rotary surface cleaner for even color
  • Aprons, curbs, and garage slabs included

DRIVEWAY CLEANING

YOUR DRIVEWAY IS THE LARGEST THING ANYONE SEES.

It is bigger than the front door, bigger than the windows, and it sits between the street and everything else. A dark, streaked slab drags down a house that is otherwise in good order, and it does that from a hundred feet away. Cleaning it is the single change that alters a property's appearance most, which is why it is usually the first thing people ask us about.

MARYLAND WINTERS LEAVE SOMETHING BEHIND EVERY YEAR.

Around 60 nights a year drop below freezing here, and every one of them puts a driveway through another expansion cycle. Salt residue makes that worse by holding moisture in the pores rather than letting the slab dry out. A spring flush across Fort Washington and the neighboring towns removes that residue before it spends another summer working away at the surface.

OIL TAUGHT US PATIENCE LONG BEFORE IT TAUGHT US CHEMISTRY.

Early on we learned the hard way that a stubborn stain does not respond to a higher setting, it responds to time. Give the right product long enough on the surface and the stain lifts. Rush it and you get a shiny etched patch that outlasts the stain you were chasing. In 26 years that lesson has saved more driveways than any piece of equipment we own. How old is your worst stain?

WHY CHOOSE US FOR DRIVEWAY CLEANING.

Hand washing a car under running water, black outline icon
CONCRETE THAT LOOKS POURED, NOT PATCHED
One consistent color from the garage door to the street, including the strip behind the cars nobody moves. Partial results are worse than none, because the contrast draws attention to what was skipped.
Hand spraying water over a car illustration, suggesting car washing or cleaning
STAINS TREATED, THEN WASHED
Oil, transmission fluid, and rust each get their own product and their own dwell time before any water arrives. That sequence is what separates a genuinely clean slab from a lighter shade of stained.
Hand using a spray nozzle to wash a car with water droplets around it
LESS SURFACE SCALING OVER TIME
Deicing residue left in the pores keeps the concrete wetter through every freeze. Flushing it out each spring is straightforward maintenance that quietly protects the finish you already paid for.
Hand spraying foam over a car, suggesting washing or cleaning.
A SURFACE THAT IS READY FOR SEALER
Sealer applied over contamination peels early and protects unevenly. If resealing is in your plans, cleaning first is not an optional extra, it is the step that decides how long the sealer lasts.
Hand washing a car with soap and water spray in black-and-white icon style
NO STRIPES DOWN THE MIDDLE
Wand marks on a driveway are permanent until the next cleaning, and they are visible from the street. A rotating head at a steady pace is what keeps the whole slab reading as one surface.

CURB APPEAL FROM THE ROAD
Nobody inspects your gutters from a passing car, but everybody sees the driveway. It is the highest-visibility square footage on most properties and the fastest visual improvement available.

OUR DRIVEWAY CLEANING WORK

A driveway is rarely just one slab. There is the apron at the street, the pad by the garage, the joints, and whatever material the walkway beside it happens to be. All of it gets addressed together.

Concrete Driveway Washing

FULL SLABS

The full run cleaned with a rotary surface cleaner in overlapping passes, joints included. Even pace produces even color, and the edges get finished by hand where the machine cannot physically reach.

Aprons and Curb Cuts

STREET EDGE

The apron takes road grit, tire wash, and plow residue that never reaches the rest of the slab. It is also the piece every passing neighbor sees, and it is routinely left out by other contractors.

Oil and Fluid Stain Treatment

OIL WORK

Targeted degreasing on parking spots, drip lines, and the shadow under where a vehicle has sat for years. Older, deeply saturated stains lighten substantially rather than vanishing, and we say so before starting.

Paver and Stamped Driveways

UNIT PAVING

Interlocking pavers and stamped concrete cleaned without stripping joint sand or dulling the decorative surface. Pressure is reduced, the angle changes, and the finish stays intact underneath the soil we are removing.

Garage Slabs and Parking Pads

ATTACHED AREAS

Interior garage floors, carport slabs, and additional parking pads treated with the same degreasing sequence. These collect the heaviest oil loading on any residential property and almost never get cleaned.

Winter Salt Flushing

SEASONAL

A spring flush that carries chloride residue, sand, and grit off the concrete once plowing season ends. Low pressure and high volume do most of the work, which is exactly what the surface wants.

THE WORD ON OUR WORK

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY.

Driveways generate the most enthusiastic feedback we get, mostly because the before and after sit side by side while we work. Customers also tell us the price we quoted was the price they paid, which should be unremarkable and apparently is not.

FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

Driveway questions are almost always about stains, sealing, and whether the concrete can take it. Here is what we tell homeowners while we are standing on the slab.

How often should you pressure wash a driveway?

Once a year works for most properties, ideally in spring after the salt season. Drop to every 6 months where vehicles leak, where trees drop heavily, or where the slab sits in shade and grows a green film.

Can pressure washing remove oil stains?

Fresh spills come out readily with a degreaser and heated water. Stains that have soaked in for years usually lighten dramatically rather than disappearing, because the oil has traveled below the depth that any surface treatment can reach.

How do you remove rust stains from concrete?

Rust needs its own chemistry, applied to the mark itself and rinsed thoroughly, since a general wash will not touch it. Irrigation and metal furniture are the usual sources, and both tend to come back without a change of habit.

How do you get tire marks off a driveway?

Hot water and a degreaser, worked in before the main pass. Rubber transfer bonds to the surface differently than dirt does, so it needs heat rather than pressure, particularly across the turning areas just outside a garage door.

    Can you pressure wash asphalt?

Yes, at much lower pressure than concrete takes. Asphalt binder softens in heat and lifts if you attack it, so the approach relies on chemistry and volume instead of force, and the edges and seams get particular care throughout.

Should a driveway be sealed after washing?

Sealing is optional, but if you plan to do it, cleaning first is essential. Metro Mobile Pressure Washing prepares driveways in Fort Washington, MD ahead of sealing so the product bonds to clean concrete rather than to contamination.

How long should concrete dry before sealer goes on?

Give the slab several dry days, longer in humid weather, because sealer traps whatever moisture is still in the pores. Metro Mobile Pressure Washing schedules Fort Washington, MD driveway work around that drying window whenever a sealing job follows.

How do you get mold and mildew off a driveway?

With a cleaning solution and dwell time, not with pressure. The dark patches in the shaded sections are organic growth, and unless the growth itself is treated the discoloration returns within a season or two of the wash.

    HOW WE WORK

FROM FIRST STAIN TO FINAL RINSE, HERE IS HOW.

    STEP 01

    Read the slab
We look at the age of the concrete, the finish, the cracking, and every stain individually. Oil, rust, algae, and rubber all need different products, and knowing which is which decides the whole sequence.

    STEP 02

    Protect the edges
Beds and lawn along the driveway get soaked, garage thresholds get checked, and any drain in the run gets identified so runoff has somewhere sensible to travel once we begin moving water across the slab.

    STEP 03

    Degrease and dwell
Degreaser goes onto the stained areas first and is left to break the bond between oil and concrete. This is the slowest part of the job and the reason the finished slab looks even.

    STEP 04

    Pre-treat the whole surface
A cleaning solution goes across the full driveway so organic growth is dealt with chemically before any mechanical work. Doing this means the pressure needed afterward is far lower than most people would expect.

    STEP 05

    Surface clean in even passes
The rotary head runs in overlapping lines at a consistent walking pace. Stopping, hurrying, or lifting mid-run is exactly how a band appears in the finished concrete once everything on the slab has dried out.

    STEP 06

    Detail, rinse, and inspect
Edges, expansion joints, and the apron get finished by hand, then the whole slab gets a clean rinse and a walk with you. Any stain still showing gets a second treatment while we are here.
